On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the age of 83, the Lord called home one of his soldiers, Bishop Willie Giles, Jr., to his eternal resting place while at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.
Willie Giles, Jr. was born on May 3, 1939, to Willie, Sr. & Gladys Mizell Giles Suffolk, VA. He received his education from Suffolk Public Schools. He worked as a production worker at Planters Peanuts Co. and later retired after over 35 years of service.
Willie Giles, Jr. accepted Christ at the early age of 12 years old. He was a young man full of visions and dreams with a servant’s heart. He was called into the ministry and began serving as the Pastor at Olive Branch Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA.
In 1990, he became the Founder and Pastor of Mount Olive Holiness Church, Suffolk, VA where he acquired the position of Bishop. He retired after 36 years of pastoral service.
His favorite songs that he loved to sing were: “There’s A Bright Side Somewhere” and “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross.” His favorite scriptures were: St. John Chapter 14, and Matthew Chapter 7. Although Bishop Giles was a meek and humble man of few words, he loved to talk about the saving grace of Jesus. He enjoyed reading especially the word of God.
Preceded in death were his parents, Willie, Sr. & Gladys Mizell Giles; one son, Eli; two daughters Darlene Graham and Marilyn Giles; one brother, Harry Lee Giles; four sisters Pinky Williams, Vertley Thorpe, Lucy Beamon, and Mary Grey.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted and loving wife, Doretha Giles, one stepson, Wyatt P. Hamlin, Jr., Suffolk, VA; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Jones (Leroy), Chesapeake, VA, Laura Davis (Keith), Portsmouth, VA, and Aretha Hamlin, Suffolk, VA; two sisters, Lillie Mae Riddick and Hilda Williams (Wesley), both of Suffolk, VA; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Nephew, Uncle, and Cousin, you will be forever loved and always remembered in our hearts!
