As one of the matriarchs of the Perkins-Jones Family, it broke my heart to lose him, but he didn’t go alone; part of us went with him on that Monday evening, August 30th. That day God told his
Angels that it was time for Gerald to come home to Heaven. God said, “your grandparents will be at the Pearlie Gates to welcome you.”
As a nephew, he grew up never outgrowing the love, fun time, and laughter. Gerald was kind, compassionate, joyful, faithful, and filled with integrity and great humor. Whenever he visited his grandparents Mr. George and Mrs. Carrie Jones(aka Big George and Sugar Pie), he listened to what they said because he knew they wanted what was best for him. Ten years ago, Gerald eloquently spoke at his grandfather’s funeral, highlighting what he had learned from his knowledgeable and well-read grandfather, who always gave great words of wisdom.
Gerald participated in family reunions and in family events held in Maryland, Dale City, Newport News, Virginia Beach, Richmond, Hampton and Portsmouth. He especially enjoyed family members sharing what they were thankful for.
Yes, our hearts ache, but Gerald will always hold a special place in our hearts. There will never be another Gerald Jones. We love and will miss him forever.
