TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Berkarya Party advisory board chairwoman Siti Hediati Hariyadi, popularly known as Titiek Soeharto, said that the government has eliminated a person`s livelihood by freezing the activity of her family`s Supersemar Foundation.
She said that the foundation founded by the late president Soeharto will no longer be able to provide scholarships to children that cannot afford the expense of a formal education.
Titiek further claimed more than two million people have received Supersemar scholarship and that 70 percent of university rectors currently leading state universities are receivers of the scholarship.
“We will no longer be able to provide scholarships to smart children. This is blatantly eliminating someone’s chance for a better livelihood,” she said on Thursday, Nov. 22.
The Supreme Court declared that the now-defunct foundation is guilty of the misuse of funds and it has to pay the Rp4.4 trillion of state loss.
Moreover, Titiek Soeharto refuted the court’s verdict and suspected that the Supreme Court had been ordered by someone to name the foundation guilty of the charges.
“The Supersemar Foundation is innocent. This is because the Supreme Court was ordered by someone to name the foundation guilty,” said Titiek Soeharto.
