On Tuesday July 18, 2023, shortly after 12:30pm, the Lord summoned one of his earthly angels’ home to be one of his heavenly angels. Zena A. Steele was and is that angel. We know that she is sharing her love, laughter, and giving spirit in her new heavenly home. Zena A. Turner was born on February 20, 1961 in Portsmouth, VA to Mr. Frankin R. Turner and the late Evelyn M. Turner. She attended Deep Creek High School where she received her diploma and also attended Tidewater Community College.
Zena worked for many years as a home health nurse, hospitality at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott, hospitality supervisor at the Norfolk Courtyard Marriot, and finally Housekeeping Director at the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughter. Zena was affectionally called “Big Z” or Chaka Khan, and loved to watch her westerns and explained each episode to anybody that would be willing to listen!
Zena was preceded in her death by her mother Evelyn Faulk. She leaves to cherish her memory her father Franklin Turner: sister Frances Darden (Troy); daughters: Keiatta Garcia (David) and LaQuisha Turner; son: John Turner; grandsons: QuaeVon Watkins, Kendell Morgan, and Kevin Barnes Jr.; her granddaughters: Francez Turner and Niara Turner; stepson: Uncle: Walter Poole: Aunt: Harriet Nicholson; stepson: Derek Dawson; special friend Clarence White; and goddaughters: Shana
